Broughton provides simple but effective vehicle anti-theft solution for dealer premises
As car security improves, car thieves are changing their tactics and an increasing number of vehicles are now being stolen from manufacturer and dealer premises. These locations are ideal targets for the opportunist and organised thief alike. Sites are very busy with a great deal of vehicle and pedestrian traffic at all times of day and vehicles are often left unattended with the keys in the ignition as they wait to be loaded or moved around a compound. The last year has seen prestige car manufacturers and dealers in particular becoming victim to this new modus operandi.
Some sites are fighting back however with the help of a British company that is providing a simple but extremely effective solution. Broughton Controls, the UK 's leading specialist in the field of entrance control solutions has seen a steadily increasing demand for its systems from car and commercial vehicle dealers and manufacturers throughout the country.
Laurence Goode, managing director of Broughton Controls explains the success of the company's solution.
"Gates are fine for providing maximum security when premises are closed, car park style rising arm barriers are highly visible but no real deterrent to the determined thief and rising bollards are easily bent and put out of action causing potential major inconvenience. The only certain way of allowing rapid access and egress on a site during working hours, yet still preventing unauthorised removal of vehicles, is by using a heavy duty, automatic rising blocker. Linked to card reading systems or keypads, the high-speed actuation of these units doesn't impede garage personnel in carrying out their work. They are unobtrusive, can be fitted in locations where it is impossible to install other products and don't adversely affect the appearance of the vehicle dealership premises.
We have already provided a number of these units to manufacturer's sites and dealer premises and in every case it has completely eliminated the theft of vehicles. Employing equipment like this causes only minor disruption during installation and it is seen as a very positive step in minimising insurance risk.
Whilst vehicle specific systems such as electronic tracking may allow the recovery of a stolen vehicle they don't explain, to an irate customer or an insurance company, how the vehicle came to be stolen in the first place. Vehicle dealerships have to be located in prominent positions with easy access for customers but that doesn't mean they can't also be secure premises.
Prevention is always preferable to cure especially when, in instances like this, it can be achieved in such a simple and cost effective way using a tried and tested product.
