Broughton blocks the way for joyriders
'Low key but effective' is often the brief for access control solutions in public spaces, and the brief Broughton Controls received for the Designer Outlet Village at Castleford Freeport was no exception.
"Our Series 500 road blockers were ideally suited to this application, being effectively invisible when lowered yet large enough and strong enough to resist any attempt at entry when activated. The high strength construction of these units will easily stop even the largest trucks and the programmable control system allows complete flexibility to interface with any access control system whether remote or fully monitored." Comments Karl Derbyshire sales manager for Broughton Controls.
With the increasing use of public car parks as off-road playspaces for joyriders and others seeking automotive thrills, car park security has never been more important and with 7 acres of car parking to police and protect the Designer Outlet Village at Castleford Freeport have a larger task than many.
Mark Hartstone of Freeport Leisure explains the problem. "Being situated right next to the M62 and only minutes from the major population centres of Yorkshire we didn't want to become a playground when the village was closed. We also had a requirement to control access at all times to the loading and delivery areas and although we had considered barriers they did not seem to offer the right solution. The traffic blockers from Broughton Controls have proved an ideal solution, being totally unobtrusive when the village is open yet providing a totally effective deterrent at all other times.
