Broughton are top of the league
Broughton Controls has recently completed the installation of fifty-one spectator entry turnstiles at the new Southampton FC stadium. This was in fact the latest in a long list of stadium contracts completed by the company in 2001, a list that includes Oxford , West Bromwich Albion and the Stadium of Light - home to premiership club Sunderland FC. These add to an impressive line-up of grounds already using installations from Broughton including, Manchester United, Middlesborough, Bolton , Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Southampton contract illustrates the complexity of these jobs particularly well;
The units are based on a standard design and built to precise dimensions in order to fit straight into the existing layout when they arrive on site. The modular turnstiles, supplied complete with integrated kiosks, operator doors and vandal-resistant payscreens are electronically controlled and connected to the stadium spectator counting system as well as having their own individual counting facility.
This design comes into its own particularly where space restrictions are very tight. For these situations Broughton has developed an innovative layout that allows the operator access to their position via keyswitch control of the turnstile and a hinged payscreen. This solution reduces the amount of equipment needed and allows the required specification to be met within tight space constraints whilst retaining all the features of a standard system.
The design and construction of stadium turnstiles is all controlled in-house to ISO9001 accreditation standards. Units are then supplied to site in a pre-fabricated, ready to fit form for easy installation with the minimum of disruption.
The crowning glory in Broughton's stadium project trophy case is now the City of Manchester Stadium . After a lengthy pitching process Broughton secured the contract to design, supply and install 86 custom-built turnstiles at the UK's newest stadium, which played host to the Commonwealth Games. The contract was secured against strong foreign competition, and really does confirm Broughton's position as league leaders in stadium entrance control.
